How did Día de Muertos Start in Vancouver, WA?

Started in 2021, Luminarias Dia de Muertos honors those who have passed on through dance, music, and a celebration of life at Esther Short Park. Last year, guests were invited to light luminarias, little lanterns, on a drawn out "Tree of Life" on the ground. Guests were also invited to participate in the celebration of life by placing photos of their loved ones on an altar. And this 2024 year, we will be celebrating it again!

Although not as big as the Luminaria event, Vancouver Ballet Folklórico has actually celebrated Dia De Muertos many times in the past such as in local Vancouver places like, North Bank Artist Gallery, Hidden Brewery, The Loft Artist Gallery, Kafiex, and a few events at the Vancouver Community Library.
